About Acadiana Playgroup (Lafayette and surrounding areas)

Raising Children with Open Minds and Open Hearts

We are a diverse group of families from all over Acadiana looking for friends for ourselves and playmates for our children. We welcome anyone looking for the same. With that being said, we can't wait to meet you and your family. Come join in on the fun!

Please help keep this meet up going. Meetup.com charges our group $19.00 a month to use their site. Last year the site was sponsored by Chick Fil A and once again we are currently looking for new sponsorship and/or member donations. I am trying to keep this group free by not charging membership dues, but if we don't get help with costs, I will have no other choice to jump on the membership due bandwagon like all the other local playgroups.

If you would like to help with some of the website fees, please visit the Give your Organizer a Gift link. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Being a stay-at-home mom to an almost 2 year old, Sabastian is great. Although I love being at home with him, some days it can get to me. Sometimes I just want to talk to other moms, compare notes, have a shoulder to cry on, connect with someone who sympathizes ? or just talk of something other than poopy diapers and sippy cups.

A while back, I noticed that Sabastian, too, was starting to crave social interaction of a kind that I, myself, couldn't give him. So, I started hunting. We signed up for a few classes and went to all the kid friendly places in town, but we never were able to find quite what we were looking for. No biggie. Being the inventive and industrious sort, I decided I?d devise a solution to this problem plaguing us and other parent-toddler pairs in town. After all, before becoming a mom I was in management and sales for several years, and knew if I wanted to, I could.
The result ? after a lot of hard work ? is the Acadiana Playgroup. This growing group boasts 64 members, at least as of press time. This means it is the largest and most active playgroup in Acadiana, and new members are joining every day! Photos of past activities and postings of upcoming events can be viewed on our photo page, which can be accessed clicking the photo button. Joining the playgroup is as easy as clicking a button and filling out a short form. Because safety is important to us, we do screen applicants before allowing access into the group, so please fill out your profile page.

Our online community is the heart of our playgroup. Events are discussed and planned on the site. A photo section offers members and visitors glimpses at all the fun had at past events. Members get plenty of use out of our message board, whether to plan get-togethers, swap advice or simply chat about pop culture and current affairs. And then there?s our event calendar, highlighting every scheduled playgroup event: where it is, activities planned there, who plans to attend and other details.

Our big bash is for Halloween, and everyone is planning to have a blast! Another holiday party is planned for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We?ll share good food, make crafts and play games. Other events include parents? nights out, museum trips, zoo trips, birthday parties, ice cream trips, ?strollersize? three days a week, story times, movie nights, a pokeno club, park playdates, in-home playdates, Bach Lunch gatherings and much more. Also in the works is a book club and a work at home mom support club meeting once a month. Events are planned six days a week at different times, so families can always find one that fits into their busy schedules.

The Acadiana Playgroup is 100 percent free. There are no membership dues, unlike any other playgroup out there. To keep it that way for the long haul, we are seeking business sponsors to help cover costs associated with essentials like our Web site, travel and craft projects. The only time money is needed is if we visit a venue that charges an entrance fee of some kind, in which cases all pay their own way. For parties, bring potluck dishes, divvy up drinks, and all pitch in for decorations and other supplies. The Acadiana Playgroup is one of a kind. We make it easy to meet new people and, of course, playmates for your child!

Amy Copeland, a.k.a., is the creator of the Acadiana Playgroup and www.ourbirthclub.com, an online community for mothers and pregnant women. When she isn?t organizing play dates, moderating the playgroup?s online message boards or working as a professional photographer www.amys1000.com, she?s busy being Sabastian?s mommy and Bryans wife. She can be reached via e-mail at amy@amys1000.com or by phone at (337) 230-2382.
