Okay, I think Joe's ready for potty training and I need some advice on how to get him started and really interested. He'll be three in July and I think it's about time. I've read books but I'm more interested in what's been tried and really works. Any ideas?

We went straight for it, He wanted a "thomas the tank toy", an expensive one and eventhough he does not understand money, we told him once he goes on the potty he can get it. We just went for it, took off the diaper, let him wet himself, which after the second time, he did not like and started holding it. by the next day, we held it almost the whole day and once he went and we all started dancing and stuff in the bathroom, he got excited and we went to the store and bought his toy and that was it. then he got another one once he went Poo on the pot, which he held for three days (which the dr. said was ok). We made a joke about it landing and splashing in the toilet and that was it, we were off and running. He wore pull ups for about a month at night and by the end of that month he was waking up to go. We have learned with our son, if we make a big deal about it, and make it fun. If you stress out, they will stress out.

Good LUck!!!!

I agree with Lisa. Be calm, not stressed and make it a fun experience. There will be times you will want to throw your son, the potty, yourself out the window but it will happen. We did the same thing with my daughter by making a big deal. We did the sticker thing and she loved that. She had a special poster board and was allowed to take a bunch of stickers and put them anywhere she wanted every time she went pee. Poop was much harder so we had "princess parties". She was allowed to have cake and blow out a candle. Good luck!
