About The Des Moines West Side Play At Home Moms
My first thought for what to put in this section was to say something about stay at home parents meeting up periodically with our children and occasionally without, discussing the joys and frustrations of parenthood during the rare times that our children were not pulling us over to the new stick they found or trying to escape.
And then I had a chat with another member. She was going to be making the transition from full time stay at home, to full time working outside the home mom. She expressed how difficult it was going to be, seeing as we meet several times a week for coffee, to walk the neighborhood trails, or to meet up at a playground.
She wasn't sad about those things, though. It wasn't about simply not being able to take a walk now and then with friends. It was then that I realized that we're not "just a mom's group" or a group who "just gets together to let the kids play." We're also about the relationships we build with each other. We are close-knit group who meet to do and experience all sorts of things together. But the most important part is, that we all have an awesome time together, make lasting friendships, support each other, share lots of laughs, even a few tears, and meet people we probably wouldn't otherwise meet.
Which brings me to my next thing - the type of people you'll meet in this group. Simply put, there isn't one type of member. We're Mamas for Obama and MC Cain supporters, shy and outgoing, veggie lovers and meat eaters, city dwellers living in lofts downtown and ranch owners in subdivisions all mixed together. Some are your traditional family of mom, dad, boy and girl, others are blended with 2nd marriages and step children. We come from all different backgrounds as well. Some were born and raised here and have never left, others are new to the area, and still more who have left and came back.
