Welcome to the Stay-At-Home-Moms of the Virginia Peninsula!
If you are interested in joining our group, you are starting in the right place.
We hope to have you as a member soon!New Members:This group is open to new members! We are primarily a group of Stay-at-Home-Moms with children of all ages. We are looking for members who can be active both at playdates and on our
message boards.
The first Friday of every month is set aside for new member meet-ups. Currently our New Member meet-up is held in a private room at
Grissom Library in Newport News. All current members are welcome and at least one organizer will be there.
We have a security policy requiring all pending members to meet an organizer in person before allowing access to the message board or playdates. If the new member meet-up is not convenient, an
organizer will be able to let you know other dates and times for your first meet-up.
Additionally, we request that all pending members have a
profile picture uploaded to Meetup.com at the time of application to help us find you at your first meet-up.
Please don't forget to add meetup.com to your e-mail safe list.
Whole-Group Playdates: Our main focus is on whole-group playdates. In addition to our monthly New Member Meet-up, we have a monthly playdate at
Port Warwick. We also have playdates throughout the month and we encourage everyone to attend. If you would like to open your home for a playdate or if you have an idea for a meet-up, please
let us know!
Age Appropriate Playdates: We have set up one playdate a month to offer activities geared towards the children’s age. Many of us have children that fall into more than one category or have more than one child. Everyone is welcome to attend any and all groups you fall into and siblings are always welcome. Locations and times may vary by month.
• 0-12 months will meet on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 10 AM.
• 0-2 years will meet on the third Monday of the month at 10 AM.
• 2-5 years will meet on the fourth Friday of the month at 1 PM.
Mom's Night Out (MNO): So many of us love this special time out! We have at least one each month. Dates, times, and locations will change, so check the
calendar regularly.
Hosting:If you would like to host a playdate or MNO, wonderful! Just
let us know and we'll add it to the calendar so everyone can have a chance to attend. Let us know the time, date(s), and the limit of guests your home can accommodate. Also, if you would like a theme specific get-together (craft day, food-based activities, water activities, etc.), let us know, and we'll add it to the description so everyone can choose wisely.
Active Members: We all love the intimate feeling of a close-knit group, so it's important that we all remain active and involved. Except for obvious reasons (health, new baby, vacation), each member should be able to participate in at least one to two playdates a month and check the
message board and
calendar on a weekly basis.
We will have a monthly Roll Call on the
message board. While we encourage you to post more often, we would like all members to participate in the Roll Call posts. This will not only help us stay connected, but it will help us remain a fully-involved group.
ID: How many of us went to our first meet-up and didn't know who was part of the SAHMs group? To combat this, we will be making name badges for organizers to wear. They will help us spot each other in a crowd, and they will help us remember new friend's names! We also encourage everyone to visit the
SAHM store to purchase other group identifiable items, such as shirts, bags, or buttons. These purchases will help with Meetup.com fees.
Group Dues: To cover our Meetup.com fees, we collect $5 yearly dues. These dues can be paid directly to an organizer or through PayPal. The dues are waived for new members for the first three months.
Organizer Meetings: The organizers will be meeting on a monthly basis to discuss the group. Please call or
email us with ideas and feedback. This group is for all of us and we value your input!
Privacy:In order to protect our privacy and our children’s safety, we ask that members do not post the contents of our message boards or calendar to any other website or blog.
Food Allergies:All of our playdates are nut-free. This includes all types of nuts. If your child has any other food allergy, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.
